Things to do in Bjørnafjorden
Eidegrend lies in Hålandsdalen in Bjørnafjorden, between mountains, fjord and river – about an hour’s drive from Bergen. Here are our favourite things to do during your stay. Just ask us and we’ll help you plan your day.
The river, the sauna and the quiet of the farm
The best experience starts right outside your door. Swim in the river, warm up in the sauna and enjoy the calm of the historic cluster farm. The sauna and a private bathing spot are included in your stay.
Holdhus Church
This beautiful wooden church nearby dates from 1726, and there has been a church here since the Middle Ages – it is first mentioned in 1306. It is owned by the Society for the Preservation of Norwegian Ancient Monuments and is open to visitors in summer.
Mountain hike to Gjønakvitingen (1,213 m)
For those who want a proper mountain hike. The route starts from Gjøn in Øvre Hålandsdalen and is steep for much of the way, rewarding you with wide views over mountains and fjords.
Kråkenos (814 m)
A slightly shorter hike from Øvre Hålandsdalen, up through the forest and past Røyndalsvatnet lake to a cairn with a lovely fjord view.
Day hike to Vetlevardhytto
A family-friendly walk from Fjorden Arena in Eikelandsosen to a day-trip cabin overlooking the Eikelandsfjord and Skjelbreidvatnet lake.
Dinner at the shared table in Floren
End the day with dinner made from local produce at the shared table at 6:00 pm in Floren Mat & Kultur. Let us know when you book.
Osøyro and Lyse Abbey
The municipal centre Osøyro has a harbour promenade, cafés and the Oseana art and culture centre. Nearby are the ruins of Lyse Abbey, a medieval monastery.
A day in Bergen
About an hour’s drive away, Bryggen, the Fish Market and Mount Fløyen are easy to combine with quiet nights in the countryside.
On to the Hardangerfjord
Follow road 48 east through the valley towards Mundheim and you reach the Hardangerfjord – a wonderful excursion by car.
